technology, education, teaching, teachers, future teachers

I recommend Wiziq as a free virtual classroom.

www.WiZiQ.com is an online teaching platform, which provides a free virtual classroom environment for teachers to interact online and teach students in real time. Teachers can also build a profile, keep an availability schedule, and maintain a content library, which is associated with their profiles, by uploading PowerPoint presentations and PDF Files.

WiZiQ offers the following features:

Works in Flash format and needs no downloads
2-way live audio/video delivery
Whiteboard with Math tools
Synchronous Content sharing such as PowerPoint (retains animations and transitions), PDF, Flash, MS Word, MS Excel files and videos
Records all sessions to be played back in Flash format (needs no downloads)
Share PowerPoint presentations asynchronously even with narrated audio in slides

I really liked reading about this. I am currently taking all of my classes online and I thought that I would like it but I am having so much trouble with communicating with my teachers. I think that online classes would be great if there was better communication. I think that you could use Wizig if you were a teacher and were going to be sick and having the whole day planned out and then the sub could just project this on the overhead and students would have a better understanding of what to do. I am a substitute right now and a lot of times the teacher will forget to lay something out and I have no idea where to even begin looking for it. So this would be nice to have that way it is like the teacher is still there.

Hi Ashely,

I use WiZiQ to exclusively teach my online Advanced Placement classes. It works out very well. WiZiQ can be usef both synchronously and asynchronously.

This looks like an amazing educational tool, and I love that it is free. I think that this would be a very beneficial tool for students who are homebound, hospitalized for a long period of time, or even for a student who travels with their parents a lot. I think that this tool will revolutionize education as we know it. It may not happen quickly, but I think that it will happen eventually. I like all of the features that this platform offers as well. They all seem very easy to use and it doesn’t seem like you have to be a technological genius to use it as well. This is always a plus in my books.

What an exciting time to be in education. Wiziq could make education fun and exciting. I think that teachers would be able to do so many things with this tool. I like Ashley's idea about substitute teaching; I too substitute teach and this could be a excellant way for teachers to plan the days work. I also think this would help if the teacher would be out of the classroom for several days because of being sick or out of town, they could teach right from where ever they may be. This could help students who are home sick or out of town, they could easily get notes for homework etc. I think a teacher could use this to help students who are struggling in a content area, as a tutoring tool for help at home. Great tool! I will be passing this on to teachers at the school I substitute in. Thank you for bringing this to our attention.

This site looks like it would be a big help to students taking classes online. I have had some online classes and was not impressed with the ability to communicate. Using this as a tool would help get the one on one or even whole class participation when the help is truely needed. I could even see this tool being used for students that have to be out of the school for extended periods of time. The teacher would have more success in getting the teaching points across without all the miscommunication problems usually seen.

I think this would be very helpful for those who take online classes. I despise online classes because I do not learn anything. I've had a terrible time with this class because I do not understand how things work. I would much rather have class face-to-face for communication factors. It's not convenient to ask questions while doing an assignment, and have to email someone to ask the question and wait for the answer. I'd rather just get the directions and get the assignment done.

But like I said, this would be good for those who can not take face-to-face classes. Technology is increasing and we need to be prepared to adjust.

this tool looks like it would be a really big help for online classes. Communication is very hard during online classes, especially when you are trying to get specifics about different things, but this tool looks like it would really help. I also think this tool would be a real big help to students who have to be out of school for extended periods of time.
