Teachers from the Trenches: Please share any links to projects and experiences you have had using VoiceThread in your classroom. Thank you
TECS 390 Students: Post your reflection and your two projects fro your classmates and everyone to see. Make sure your VoiceThread is Public. Embed your project and include the link, that way one or the other will certainly work.... By the way, don't forget to add your VoiceThread to your Website.
Our juniors do an author project that includes lots of reading and writing about an author of their choice. We took the biography piece out this year and had them do a voicethread instead. They had to assume the identity of the author and describe important events, artifacts.
Some can be seen here: http://vtgallery.blogspot.com/
The plan now is to have them discuss which ones violate copywrite.
In 9th grade the students had to do an Epic project. The Voicethreads had to use 6-8 characteristics of an epic. This example uses video as well. http://voicethread.com/#u35567.b49847.i261742
Great examples. I agree about your comment iMovie/MovieMaker. But VoiceThread does provide that in between possibilities. Especially at the elementary level. I am sure finding the mew iMovie 08 is an adjustment, I think Apple has really eliminated the elementary kids from using iMovie. I do like that you can add video to VoiceThread now.
Thank you so much for sharing with my students each semester. You are really helping to prepare these future teachers each semester.
As a film snob I'm not crazy about VoiceThread for making movies though I do see how there's an advantage if you don't have a computer that can run iMovie/Movie Maker.
However, here is a project (not mine, it's Alice Mercer's) that uses Voice Thread as a way of engaging students in a standardized curriculum. It's essentially an online concept/question board (a component of the Open Court Reading Program) and the value is that other students can comment on the original work as well as students in other classrooms... http://voicethread.com/?#u16410.b55880
I think this is a project that shows the collaborative value of Voice Thread.
Mathew, I don't think of VoiceThread for movie making as much as a great way to share a visual with a big idea, and share comments and thoughts? It's like a bulletin board with voice mail. I have seen some GREAT story telling there however, I liked this one in particular: http://voicethread.com/#u53510.b61191
There are some style points he definitely could have picked up, but it was very well organized.
I recently got Voice Thread unblocked at my district so I've only just starting using it.
An inquiry activity from our la text (Open Court) called Questions and concepts where kids reflect the unit theme. I put it in VoiceThread: http://voicethread.com/#u16410.b55880 - Third Grade http://voicethread.com/#u53510.b61191 - Fifth Grade
One of my many hats while serving as the Director of Technoloyg in Lyons for USD405 deals with techology integration. I have worked with several teachers and pre-service students attending Sterling College. Here is a Voicethread project from our middle school art/tech teacher and some of her students: http://voicethread.com/#q.b12069
Here is a link to a project created by two Sterling College students as they completed their Technology in the Classroom Voicethread project: http://voicethread.com/#q+raisin+in+the+sun.b15826.i96143 (URL copied from Firefox).
I absolutely loved doing this voice thread. I had a great time making the thread. I'm doing my thematic unit in social studies over the American Revolution. Great way to incorporate technology.
Bigger, better resolution photos would help you project. You have the concept that is for sure, but finding good photos is sometimes difficult and takes much serious digging. Keep that in mind for furure projects. The size of your photos is this one will not keep kids engaged in the project.
The front page is an example of how this works better with large pics. The resolution on most pics from this era are not fantastic, but they should be readable.
