TECS 390 students, please add your twitter here so we can follow you as well. I will sometimes communicate with the class using twitter. If you discovered this before reading the document in Moodle, return to the details in Moodle.

I'm still a bit iffy about twitter. I read all the documents and blogs that Cyndi provided but I'm still not real sure of it's purpose. Is it a blogging thing? A social network thing? A communication thing? What about twitterific and snitter? Do I need these to really get the most out of twitter? How do I find the people that would be worth following? How do you follow conversations?

I like the idea of using it in the classroom instead of clickers or a way to communicate with all the parents and students in the classroom but how secure is it?

I really would like to learn more about twitter and the various uses. Any ideas?

It's not exactly conversations. To find people worth following, find one you like. See who they follow. Check out their tweets. If they are interesting to you, follow. Follow that advice over and over, as your network grows, your learning will expand exponentially.

Is that who you are - ah! I have been holding off accepting you because I didn't know who you were! For some reason, I thought this course started next week - I am so sorry.
Twitter is 24/7 communication with my network. I personally screen every follower. They must identify themselves somewhere, usually on a blog in the about section, and/or list their blog in their twitter profile (facebook doesn't count), and/or be a teacher (and that doesn't always mean in the traditional sense. I learn a lot from some 8th graders I know), or I have met them f2f. After Educon, I let the followers list build up to 15 before I dealt with it. Most students are looking for a social gathering. My network is a social-learning network. A visual representation and 24 hour connection to my personal learning network. If a person is profane or otherwise inappropriate they are out. If the activity continues to plague me, they are blocked. Afterall, I control my network. This is not network tv where ABC, CBS, Fox, ESPN, or NBC are in control. This is twitter, where I am in control. I often do not have time to twitter during the school day, so I adhere to my policy of whenever I get to twitter, I read/respond to one page and that is that. If anyone wants me directly, there are two methods - either use the @name method (replies found on your reply tab) or Direct Message (often referred to as DM). DMs are privater. I rarely use email except with those who refuse to move. Students, most parents, and I use some sort of messaging. Twittering was very active at Educon last weekend. All the sessions are recorded videos (like Youtube) on at http://ustream.tv/search/all/educon

I can always count on you Mrs. Druff to get to the heart of the matter. Thank you so much. One of these days I am jumping in the car and driving to OKLA and going to spend a day with you in your classroom. You are inspiring!

From reading the information about Twitter I guess I am a little skeptical about it. I guess I can see a use for it for teachers; I mean you could find some really good resources and put a post in twitter and all of the other teachers that are following you can then access that resource. That is probably helpful to teachers.

I am not really sure about using it in a classroom though, I don't know if students need to be posting to their whole class what they are doing. I think a lot of students, especially older ones would probably start abusing it by posting inappropriate material.

I had heard of Twitter in the past but never really knew what it was, now I have a little more understanding of it. I think with time, using it more and following more people I will be able to understand it fully.

I too am a little skeptical about using twitter. This is still such a new enough concept to me that I have not had a chance to really get used to it or get addicted to it. I personally don’t see myself getting that addicted to it, but then again I could be wrong. I do however think that there is definitely potential to get some great ideas and resources from it. I think the big thing for me is just know who is trustworthy enough to follow. However, with the guidance of our professor, I know that we will be introduced to a whole new world and a whole new wealth of information about technology and using it in the classroom.

Twitter is a great way to keep up with the world of changing technology. Its interesting to follow people to see what their interests are, and its interesting to have other people following you. Twitter is basically a live chat and blog site full of useful information that can easily be transferred to other educators across the World Wide Web. Educators are constantly borrowing ideas from one another. What a great way to find new ideas, and its right at our fingertips!

Twitter is different from chat. It's micro blogging: what are you doing right now.

I too like other people are a bit skeptical about using twitter. But, to look at it in a more positive way it helps us keep up with the growing world of technology, and I am sure it is only a matter of time before I become addicted to twitter. It is really neat to see who is following you and who you can follow. I think it will be a great resource to use to get ideas from other teachers. I think it is good that we are becoming familiar with the new forms of communication within the growing world of technology.

This is something I'm interested in learning about. I haven't really experimented with it yet, so as of now I just have my picture posted. This seems like another good resource that is out there for people to share ideas.
